The Musicians' Baseball Club of Brooklyn

The Musicians' Baseball Club of Brooklyn is a Brooklyn-based baseball-themed arts collective creating original performances that combine live music, live-scored silent film, and baseball history. Led by musician and filmmaker Jared Engel, the group presents The Old Ball Game, a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience that brings baseball's colorful past to life through award-winning films, original music, and inventive multimedia performance. Since premiering its first live-scored silent film in 2025, the Club has performed at theaters, museums, festivals, and ballparks, earning recognition for its fresh, engaging approach to baseball storytelling.
Also known as "FUMBL" (The Formerly Unemployed Musicians' Baseball League), the club was founded during the pandemic as a community baseball team for New York City musicians, but quickly evolved into something much larger. What began as afternoons on the sandlot inspired an artistic mission: telling baseball stories through original works of music and film. Rather than treating the game as nostalgia, the Club creatively uses baseball as a lens for comedy, history, and drama introducing audiences to forgotten stories and unsung characters.
The collective's original productions include the award-winning live-scored silent film Day of the Catch, which reimagines the hilarious true story behind the birth of the Grapefruit League, and The Mascot Race, a comic adventure through modern-day New York. Every project blends historical research with original composition and visual storytelling, creating performances that are equally at home in performing arts centers, libraries, museums, and baseball stadiums.
Today, the Musicians' Baseball Club of Brooklyn continues to develop new films, music, and live productions while expanding The Old Ball Game to audiences across the country. Whether presenting a family program, a museum performance, or a full evening of live-scored film and music, the Club is committed to creating imaginative new ways to experience baseball through the arts.
