FUMBL Films

FUMBL Films is the film studio created by the Musicians' Baseball Club of Brooklyn to produce original baseball-inspired cinema that blends history, humor, and visual storytelling. Founded in early 2025 with the production of Day of the Catch, FUMBL Films creates silent films designed to be experienced with live original musical scores performed by the Musicians' Baseball Club of Brooklyn. Both Day of the Catch and The Mascot Race were written and directed by Jared Engel, who combines his background as a musician, filmmaker, and baseball historian to bring forgotten stories and imaginative new adventures to life on screen. Through FUMBL Films, the Musicians' Baseball Club of Brooklyn continues its mission of exploring baseball through creative new forms, connecting audiences with the game’s history, characters, and spirit in unexpected ways.

A Grapefruit League Legend

Day of the Catch is an award-winning live-scored silent film that tells the forgotten—and hilarious—true story behind the birth of baseball's Grapefruit League. Set during the Brooklyn Robins' 1915 spring training in Florida, the film follows a mischievous prank in which a grapefruit is mistaken for a baseball, leading to one of the game's most enduring legends. Performed with an original live musical score, Day of the Catch combines comedy, history, and inventive visual storytelling to bring an overlooked chapter of baseball history to life for audiences of all ages.

The Mascot Race (2026)

The Mascot Race is a fast-paced baseball-inspired silent film that follows three musicians racing across modern-day New York City to make it to a gig on time. Blending comic-book-style visuals, physical comedy, and a love of the game, the film transforms an everyday journey into an unexpected baseball adventure. Created by the Musicians' Baseball Club of Brooklyn, The Mascot Race is brought to life with original music performed live, combining contemporary storytelling with the timeless energy of silent film and a heavy dose of baseball imagery.
